Dogs and cats are carnivores!
Dogs and cats have an amazing ancestry. Shaped by tens of thousands of years of evolution, they possess the speed, agility and finely honed senses of an expert predator.
Dogs and cats are carnivores. They require the high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet of meat-eaters. So why isn't this reflected in the food we give them?
Grain (maize, wheat) is listed as the main ingredient in 66% of dog food and 46% of adult cat food along with a very high starch content.
VETERINARY HPM® : Advanced preventive nutrition, specially formulated for carnivores.
All VETERINARY HPM® food is formulated around animal protein as the main source of energy, reducing the proportion of carbohydrates as much as possible.
VETERINARY HPM® is produced in our own factory in France, more precisely in Vauvert, close to Nîmes. This site has been producing quality pet food since 1988, and thanks to a dedicated team of veterinary surgeons and pet nutritionists, we have been able to meet the very high expectations of pet owners in terms of food quality, traceability and safety for over 30 years. Animal protein is the main ingredient of the VETERINARY HPM® range, and this comes from high quality pork and poultry, contains very low levels of ash (minerals) and is from European origin. Our peas and potato starch are from Europe and our rice originates from Asia.
No artificial colours or flavours are added to any VETERINARY HPM® products. Our strict ingredient supply policy also ensures that no raw materials are derived from Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).
LOW ALLERGEN FORMULATION
In just a few decades, dogs and cats, both of which are natural carnivores, have had to adapt to diets increasingly rich in starch. Recent studies show however, that when given the choice, dogs and cats clearly prefer foods which contain very little carbohydrate and are richer in animal protein.
All VETERINARY HPM® products were trialled by cat and dog owners in order to validate the quality and acceptance of every product. The tests were conducted at home, in real conditions over one month.

Dogs are cats are carnivores regardless of their health status. The VETERINARY HPM® Clinical Diets provide comprehensive nutritional management for dogs and cats with a health condition. Our clinical diets go beyond the management of a specific health condition thanks to our unique VETERINARY GLOBAL CARE approach.
Each clinical diet is adapted for the nutritional management of a defined condition of the dog or cat.
A health condition often impacts upon other organs and functions, which is why every VETERINARY HPM® clinical diet also supports the nutritional management of common concurrent conditions.
The high-protein, low-carbohydrate formulation contributes to a balanced lean mass to fat mass ratio.
Every VETERINARY HPM® clinical diet helps to maintain the general health of the pet, and goes beyond the management of a specific health condition.
To help your pet's digestive system adapt successfully to new food, we recommend that you introduce VETERINARY HPM® gradually over a period of 5 to 7 days.
For a successful dietary transition:
VETERINARY HPM® is very palatable, but we do advise that you respect the daily rations recommended by your vet or vet nurse. Our general feeding guidelines can be found on every bag, but your vet or vet nurse can provide you with a recommendation tailored specifically to your pet.
A dog should drink 50-70ml/kg of their bodyweight each day, whilst cats should consume 60ml/kg.
With VETERINARY HPM®, thanks to its higher amount of protein compared to other dry foods, your pet will naturally consume more water. So don't be surprised if they start drinking more water than usual - that's a good thing!
