Product Details

Cats can develop struvite stones which are hard mineral deposits that collect in the bladder and urethra, leading to considerable discomfort, pain or a urinary blockage. Another common urinary condition in cats is feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC), resulting in inflammation in the bladder without an identifiable cause. Stress management is an important aspect to consider for FIC cases.

VETERINARY HPM® Urology Cat Food U3 is a clinical complete dry cat food to help limit the formation of bladder stones (struvite and oxalate) and help in the management of feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC), with the inclusion of green tea concentrate which is a natural source of L-theanine and has been shown to help modulate mood and stress. It can be used for long-term management of lower urinary tract disorders.

This dietary formula provides all the daily nutrition your cat needs while:

> Limiting the formation of struvite and calcium oxalate stones
> Stimulating water intake to increase urine volume and urination
> Balancing the pH of urine by diluting and acidifying it with a high protein and sodium content
> Binding phosphorus to reduce the recurrence of both struvite and oxalate stones
> Helping to lower urinary tract inflammation with a high level of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA + DHA)
> Helping to manage feline idiopathic cystitis

This dry formula is also analysed for a low struvite RSS (relative supersaturation) of <2.5 to treat and prevent bladder stones.

VETERINARY HPM® Urology Cat Food U3 comes in convenient resealable bags weighing 1.5 kg and 3 kg. Follow the feeding guidelines on the package for your cat’s body weight to provide the ideal daily ration. This food is only suitable for adult and senior cats not diagnosed with chronic kidney disease or cardiac insufficiency. Do not use during growth stages (kittens and junior cats) or while pregnant or lactating.

Another FLUTD named feline idiopathic cystitis or feline interstitial cystitis (FIC) is similar to a urinary tract infection, but is not caused by bacteria.

The VETERINARY HPM® clinical range helps to manage several conditions and is more adapted to feline carnivore needs thanks to its low carbohydrate and high protein content (moderate in the case of kidney disease).

Benefits

With a high protein content (44%), your cat will drink up to 25% more water, thereby increasing urination by 30% to pass struvite stones. It balances the pH of urine and helps to reduce urinary tract inflammation to prevent new struvite and oxalate stones. Fortified with Behaviour Plus Complex to help manage stress.

High protein and sodium content encourages water intake to increase urination [1].

The diet includes a green tea concentrate, which is a natural source of L-theanine, that can help cats feel more relaxed [3].

[3] V. Dramard et al. Clinical efficacy of l-theanine tablets to reduce anxiety-related emotional disorders in cats: a pilot open-label clinical trial. 6th IVBM, Italy 2007.

The formulation induces urine metastable for struvite stones with a score RSS of <2.5. This limits the formation of new crystals forming.

Fish oil supplements achieve high amounts of omega-3, specifically EPA+DHA, and helps limit lower urinary tract inflammation.

Moderate energy density and adapted feeding rations help maintain ideal body weight.

FAQ

VETERINARY HPM® Urology Cat Food U3 is formulated with a high protein content (44%). This helps to stimulate water intake which increases urine volume and urination, which helps to limit the formation of new stones. For cats that have been diagnosed with Feline Idiopathic Cystitis stress management is an important consideration, so the formulation also contains green tea concentrate to provide a natural source of L-theanine, which has been shown to have relaxing properties.

VETERINARY HPM® is very palatable, so to ensure your cat maintains a healthy weight we recommend following the daily rations indicated in the feeding guidelines on the bag. Your can always consult your vet or vet nurse for a feeding guide tailored for your cat.

The best way to help your cat get used to a new food is to do it gradually over a period of 7 days. The following schedule is recommended:
> Days 1 and 2: 75% current food + 25% VETERINARY HPM®
> Days 3 and 4: 50% current food + 50% VETERINARY HPM®
> Days 5 and 6: 25% current food + 75% VETERINARY HPM®
> Day 7: 100% VETERINARY HPM®

The high protein content (44%) will stimulate water intake. This helps to increase urine volume and frequency which helps to dilute the urine and is essential for limiting the formation of urinary stones.
