Product Details

Feline lower urinary tract diseases (FLUTD) are collectively a variety of conditions affecting the bladder and urethra in cats. Cats can develop bladder stones that are hard deposits which collect and can block urination, leading to considerable discomfort and pain.

Another FLUTD named feline idiopathic cystitis or feline interstitial cystitis (FIC) causes inflammation to the bladder from an unknown cause. Stress management is a crucial aspect of managing this condition.

VETERINARY HPM® Urology Cat Wet Food is a specialist cat food that helps to dissolve struvite stones whilst limiting the formation of new struvite and oxalate crystals. It is recommended for adult neutered cats from 1 year old, and can be used alone or in combination with VETERINARY HPM® Cat Food (U1, U2 or U3) dry diets.

In addition to providing all the daily nutrition your cat requires, this special dietary formula:

> Adds hydration to your cat's diet
> Contains an elevated high-quality protein content (11%) of high animal origin to help increase palatability and compliance
> Is analysed for a low struvite RSS (relative supersaturation) of <1 to dissolve and limit the formation of new bladder stones. RSS is the measure of how likely a crystal is likely to form and is a unique scale for each type of crystal.
> Balances the pH of urine to a pH 6.0-6.5 to limit both struvite and oxalate crystals from returning
> Helps to limit urinary tract inflammation with a high level of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA + DHA)
> Limits the intake of calcium and phosphorus to lower the risk of future struvite and oxalate stones forming
> Is low in carbohydrates (2.1%), calcium, magnesium and phosphate

The VETERINARY HPM® clinical range helps to manage several conditions and is more adapted to feline carnivore needs thanks to its low carbohydrate and high protein content (moderate in the case of kidney disease). This Urology Dissolution & Prevention Cat Wet Food is presented as chunks in gravy packaged in convenient pouches (12x85g). Follow the feeding guidelines on the package for your cat’s body weight to provide the ideal daily ration.

This food is suitable for adult and senior cats not diagnosed with chronic kidney disease or cardiac insufficiency. Do not use during growth stages (kittens and junior cats) or while pregnant or lactating.

Benefits

The high water content helps to increase water intake, increases urine volume and urination. It contains high protein content of animal origin to improve palatability and compliance. It contributes to urine acidification which allows the dissolution of struvites, whilst reducing the risk of calcium oxalates forming.

The high water content of this wet food diet naturally increases total water intake for optimal water circulation in the body.

The formulation induces urine undersaturation for struvite stones with struvite RSS* <1 to promote dissolution of struvite stones and prevent new ones [1].

* RSS: Relative Super Saturation index, in comparison to Veterinary HPM U2 cat.

Urinary pH between 6.0-6.5 helps limit the formation of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals [1].

A low energy content, and ideal energy balance (protein to fat to carbohydrates) help to maintain a healthy weight. The high water content helps your cat feel fuller for longer.

The high content of animal-origin ingredients (89%), high protein (11%) and very low carbohydrates (2.1%) mimic your cat’s natural dietary preferences.

FAQ

VETERINARY HPM® Urology Cat Wet Food is formulated with high proportion of ingredients from animal origin (87%) which help to increase the palatability of the food and compliance. To help support hydration, the water content naturally increases water intake for optimum urination.

VETERINARY HPM® is very palatable, so we recommend following the daily rations indicated in the feeding guidelines on the pouch. It can be used alone or mixed with our Urology dry cat food range. Your can always consult your vet or vet nurse for a feeding guide tailored for your cat.

The best way to help your cat get used to a new food is to do it gradually over a period of 7 days. The following schedule is recommended:
> Days 1 and 2: 75% current food + 25% VETERINARY HPM®
> Days 3 and 4: 50% current food + 50% VETERINARY HPM®
> Days 5 and 6: 25% current food + 75% VETERINARY HPM®
> Day 7: 100% VETERINARY HPM®
